Supported PVSS Versions and patches:
There is a ZIP file for the PVSS II software and a further zip file for each of the patches. A cumulative patch is available for the convenience of most of our users.
Guide to the installation of individual patches or the cumulative patch:
- To install a patch, make sure that no project is running, then unzip the patch contents into (the appropriate version of!) the PVSS folder, eg C:\ETM\PVSS2\3.8
- The patches must be installed in ascending order of patch number. So if you need to install a patch with a lower number than any patch that you have now, you will need to install the patches with higher patch number again.
- Instead of installing patches one by one, you can also install the cumulative patch listed at the top of the patch list. Install it in the same way that you would an individual patch (see above). The cumulative patch contains all of the supported patches (as shown in the list below). It must be the last patch installed. Do not install any other patch on top of it!
- When making the unzip of the patch-files an option must be used/activated so that only newer/changed files will be updated.
For Linux the appropriate options for the unzip command should be: -u -o . - Warning: The contents of the patch ZIP file must be extracted under the PVSS version installation folder directly. Please be careful that your zip extractor doesn't extract them to other directory (e.g. a subdirectory, Destkop, or TEMP folder.
Important note on post-installation steps:
Certain patches require additional post-installation steps to be performed after the patch is applied. Such patch are marked in the lists below with a text such as "Additional installation steps requires" in the Remarks column. Refer to the README file corresponding to the patch, to learn about the details.
Note that if you ommit the additional steps your project(s) might not work correctly anymore! It is therefore essential that you perform required steps for every project that is going to be run on the patched version of PVSS.
Typically, the additional installation step is to perform an import of a DPL (data point list) file, using PVSS ASCII Manager. The DPL files to be imported are located in the dplist subfolder of your PVSS installation.
As a reminder, here is a step-by-step guide describing how to perform an import of a DPL file in a project:
- Start your project.
- Open a PVSS Graphics Editor
- Click on "System Management" icon in the toolbar, or select Module->System Management from menu (in PVSS 3.6). This opens the System Management panel.
- Select the "Database" tab, then click on the "ASCII Manager" button to bring up the ASCII Manager panel.
- In the ASCII Manager panel, select "Import", and select "Automatically update existing DP Types" checkbox
- Use the "file browse" icon (next to the textfield in the "ASCII file" frame on the top) to bring up file selector.
- Select the ASCII file for import. Note that you need to navigate into the dplist subfolder of your PVSS installation!
On PVSS 3.1, use the list at the top of the screen to select the PVSS folder (such as C:\ETM\PVSS2\3.0\dplist)
On PVSS 3.6, use the "Project:" list at the bottom of the panel to select the PVSS folder (such as C:\ETM\PVSS2\3.6\dplist)
Note! You will not be able to change the directories in other ways (i.e. by clicking on ".." item, or using navigation icons!)
Select the file that is to be imported (i.e. the one mentioned in the patching instruction). - Back in the PVSS ASCII Manager panel, click the "Start" button. This will apply the required action. Check if there were no errors reported, then close the ASCII Manager panel and System Management Panel.
- Restart the project.
Note that you might need to repeat this procedure for ALL projects that run on this machine, with this version of PVSS.
Additional notes:
Note 1: In case you need material related to versions not listed here please contact
Note 2: More than one user has reported difficulties unzipping the downloaded files. This appears to be due to a timeout problem over the network during the download (even within the CERN site). The zip files on the server are nevertheless complete (we do check them!!). If your file seems corrupted or incomplete, please try repeating the download.
Note 3: ETM have notified us that many users send their license requests to the ETM product center, rather than to itcontrols.support. To avoid this happening in future, we have replaced the ETM license request panel with a CERN customised version. This version is included in the cumulative patch.
Recently, CERN changed its default SMTP server. The CERN customised panel has been updated accordingly. We urge all users to re-apply the cumulative patch. Alternatively, you may apply the "CERN License Request Patch" as an individual patch.
